Dr. Manjula Misra

Dr. Manjula Misra is certified in Ophthalmology (eye surgery) by the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada as well as by the American Board of Ophthalmology.


Educational Background
Dr. Misra completed her medical training at McGill University in Montreal, Canada. Upon graduation, Dr. Misra was awarded the prestigious Wood Gold Medal for highest clinical achievement among all graduates. Following her Internship at McGill University, Dr. Misra specialized in Ophthalmology at Boston Medical Centre in Boston, Massachusetts. She then pursued post-doctoral subspecialty training in Cataract and Refractive Surgery during her Fellowship at the internationally renowned Cullen Eye Institute of the Baylor College of Medicine, in Houston, Texas. Dr. Misra was appointed Instructor in Ophthalmology during her time in Houston. Dr. Misra is one of the few surgeons in Ontario with this level of training in refractive surgery techniques, and is the Durham Region's most experienced LASIK surgeon.


Cataract/Refractive Experience:
Dr. Misra has been performing cataract surgery since 1996 and LASIK (laser vision correction) since 1999. She has diverse experience with a number of excimer lasers, including the Bausch and Lomb Technolas 217, NIDEK and VISX lasers. Dr. Misra has lectured at international as well as local meetings on refractive topics including wavefront technology, surgical correction of astigmatism and multifocal lenses.

Dr. Misra’s private ophthalmic practice is located in Oshawa, Ontario. As a specialist in cataract and refractive surgery, she performs over 750 cataract extractions per year. In addition to laser vision correction, Dr. Misra offers a wide array of cutting-edge refractive technologies, such as astigmatic keratotomy for correction of astigmatism and clear lens extraction for those patients who are not candidates for laser vision correction. A number of intraocular lens technologies are offered to patients undergoing cataract surgery and clear lens extraction, including the Array™ multifocal lens and the Tecnis™ Wavefront optimized lens.

Accomplishments and Awards:
Upon graduation from McGill University, in addition to the Wood Gold Medal, Dr. Misra received the University Scholar designation. Dr. Misra has co-authored a number of articles published in peer-reviewed journals dealing with various aspects of refractive surgery and most recently has co-authored a chapter in a leading textbook on laser vision correction. Dr. Misra has also been involved in surgical instrument design, designing instruments for use in both LASIK surgery and cataract surgery.
