In general, patients who wish to reduce their dependence on glasses
or contact lenses may wish to consider laser vision correction (LVC).
Hobbies, lifestyle and job requirements must be taken into account
when making the decision.
Patients must be at least 20 years of age, with healthy eyes and
a stable spectacle or contact lens prescription. Certain medical
conditions, such as lupus, rheumatoid arthritis and uncontrolled
diabetes mellitus can delay healing and therefore be a contraindication
for LVC. Patients who are pregnant or nursing may not have stable
spectacle prescriptions and may consider delaying the procedure.
We are pleased to offer a screening examination to interested patients,
in order to determine eligibility for LVC. The following information
will be obtained:
1)
the focusing power of the eye
2)
the history of spectacle or contact lens wear
3)
measurement of the thickness and curvature of the cornea
4)
measurement of pupil size
5)
past medical history
6)
eye health history
Based on the examination, we can determine whether or not you are
a candidate for successful laser vision correction. If you are,
we can answer any questions you may have to aid in the decision-making
process. If you are not a candidate for laser vision correction,
another procedure may be right for you. We will advise you of your
options.
